Biography

Meaza Getachew (b. 1993, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) is a passionate film photographer whose creative journey spans over 14 years, beginning in high school when she first discovered the art of developing and printing black-and-white film. While her photography practice has evolved, it was her move to Baltimore in 2021 that reignited her love for film and deepened her desire to foster an artistic community.

Meaza’s work is grounded in capturing both the richness and mundane of everyday life, with an emphasis on the people, places, and stories that shape her surroundings. Whether photographing the architectural beauty of a city or exploring the intimate depths of portraiture, Meaza is driven by the desire to connect more deeply with the world around her. Her portrait work has further expanded her ability to forge meaningful connections with her subjects through the lens.

In February 2024, Meaza started the Baltimore PhotoWalks to connect with fellow local photographers and cultivate a stronger bond with her community. As a curator of Baltimore Scenes, she organizes monthly photowalks and other events that foster collaboration among artists and photographers outside of the limitations of social media platforms.

Currently based in Baltimore, MD, Meaza continues to create, share, and build a vibrant network of photographers and creatives who are passionate about capturing the stories of their cities and lives.
